BRINGING YOUR NEW BABY HOME |
OUR BEST RECOMMENDATIONS |
Five Easy Steps To A Happy Homecoming |
# 1 Have a confined location set up ahead of time, with litter box, kibble and water. Plan to bring your kitten into this area, open the carrier door and let the little one alone to come out at it’s own pace. Keep the kitten confined to this area until you are certain that they have used the litter box at least once. This will also give the kitten an opportunity to become accustomed to the usual sounds of the household. # 2 Only let the kitten out of this area when full supervision is available, allowing the kitten to walk around to explore the new surroundings on a limited basis. A cat is a “sight” animal, so will only be able to find the way back to the litter box, when it has familiarized itself with the “path” it has forged to another location. Resist the temptation (however difficult) to carry the kitten into another part of the house it does not know (you can, of course, carry the kitten back to its room). If, for some reason, the kitten becomes confused as to where their litter box is, it will go against a wall or into a corner and start to call, so there is time to return it to the litter box before an “accident” can occur. # 3 Use a canned air duster which makes a “hissing” sound (just like their moms would) with the kitten’s name, a firm “no” and a snap of your fingers, to correct unwanted behavior. Later, the word “no” or a snap of the fingers will cause your kitten to immediately stop what it is doing. # 4 Enjoy your new furry bundle of joy! # 5 Call or email us with any questions or concerns that may arise. |
